The Rwy 02 RNP approach into Kathmandu, Nepal is pretty interesting so I decided to give it a try on a flight from Mumbai aboard a Jet Airways 737-900ER (they just got them in 2013). Thai Creations did both Mumbai and Kathmandu but frankly Mumbai is somewhat of a disaster. I had to make several mods in order to make it PMC (partial mission capable). I had to modify the altitude of the Runway Lighting BGL files for both 09 and 14 (they were freaking SCASM runway files!). This got rid of the jacked up elevation issues and gave me working runway lights (although the PAPIs were still messed up and I ended up killing two of them for my sanity). Its head office is in the Nepal Airlines Corporation(NAC) Building in Kathmandu, and its main base is Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu. The airline was established in July 1958 as Royal Nepal Airlines Corporation (RNAC) to be Nepal's first airline. The airline's first aircraft was a Douglas DC-3, used to serve domestic routes and a handful of destinations in India. The airline acquired its first jet aircraft, Boeing 727s, in 1972. As of April 2016, the airline operated a fleet of nine aircraft. On 30 April 2015, Nepal Airlines received its second Airbus A320, Lumbini. The aircraft was filled with 5 tonnes of aid material to be flown from the Airbus factory in Hamburg, to Nepal on delivery of the aircraft. The aid material will be used in the relief effort for the April 2015 Nepal earthquake. In 2015, Nepal Airlines flew 253,658 travellers, up 22.87 percent compared to the previous year of 206,430 passengers.[3] Similarly, it flew 42,535 domestic air passengers in 2015, increase of 21.60% compared to previous year. Nepal Airlines has aimed to add 2 Airbus A330 aircraft and 2 Airbus A320 aircraft by 2017. Tribhuvan International Airport त्रिभुवन अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय विमानस्थल, IATA: KTM, ICAO: VNKT) is an international airport in Kathmandu, Nepal. The airport is about six kilometres from the city centre, in the Kathmandu valley. It is the sole international airport in Nepal and has served as an airfield since 1949. The airport was inaugurated in 1955 by King Mahendra and received its current name in 1964. Originally a grass runway, it was re-laid in concrete in 1957 and has been extended several times. The first jet aircraft landed at Tribhuvan in 1967 and regular jet operations commenced in 1972. The airport has one domestic and one international terminal. In 2015, the airport handled 3.21 million passengers, down 8.37% from 2014.[5] At present, about 30 international airlines connect Nepal to destinations in Asia and the Middle East, and the airport serves as a hub for several Nepalese airlines. In 2001, Royal Nepal Airlines discontinued their flights to Frankfurt and London, which severed Nepal's direct air links with Europe. Recently, Turkish Airlines launched direct flights from Istanbul to Kathmandu, re-establishing Nepal's connection with continental Europe. The Nepalese government has also recently announced that agreements have been made with Air New Zealand, Vietnam Airlines, and El Al to schedule direct flights to Kathmandu from Auckland, Hanoi, and Tel Aviv (Not limited to codeshare flights). History The airport was originally named Gauchaur Airport, after the area of Kathmandu where it was situated. The formal beginning of aviation in Nepal occurred in 1949, with the landing of a Beechcraft Bonanza aircraft, carrying the Indian ambassador. The first charter flight took place between Gauchaur and Calcutta, in a Himalayan Aviation Dakota on 20 February 1950.[6] In 1955 the airport was inaugurated by King Mahendra and renamed Tribhuvan Airport in memory of the king's father. The airport was again renamed Tribhuvan International Airport in 1964. The original grass runway was re-laid in concrete in 1957 and extended from 3,750 feet (1,140 m), to 6,600 feet (2,000 m) in 1967. The runway was again extended from 6,600 feet (2,000 m) to 10,000 feet (3,000 m) in 1975. The first jet aircraft to land at Tribhuvan was a Lufthansa Boeing 707 in 1967.[6] Royal Nepal Airlines Corporation commenced jet operations at the airport in 1972 with Boeing 727 aircraft.[6] In May 2007, Austrian Airlines discontinued their flight to Vienna, which severed Nepal's direct air links with Europe.[7] Since September 2013, Turkish Airlines launched direct flights from Istanbul to Kathmandu, re-establishing Nepal's connection with continental Europe.

Then I found that the static jetways would not show up but I found that I had some credits from the distant past for AES and applied them to VABB to get the jetways showing- although at a significant frame rate loss of course. It is a VERY nice looking airport though and if it wasn't absolutely broken, it would really rock (in fact with my fixes, it rocks pretty good). Kathmandu on the other hand, albeit a simpler airport, just works and looks decent to boot and is in the Himalayas. I used real-time weather in REX for the approach so I guess the "low-lying" (nothing is really low-lying in the Himalayas) fog was meant to really test IFR flying! The approach did bring me in to the left of the runway. I'm not sure if that is a Navdata thing or an airport thing. If you're looking at a HD version of this, watch the Nav Display (it's a cool looking RNP track).

Cosmic Air was an airline based in Kathmandu, Nepal. It operated scheduled domestic and international services out of Kathmandu Airport, aiming at foreign tourists. After already having been forced to temporarily suspended flights in 2005 and 2006 due to budgetary constraints, Cosmic Air was finally shut down in 2008. Cosmic Air was established in 1997 as a company wholly owned by Captain RP Pradhan. Flight operations started on 1 January 1998 with two Mil Mi-17 helicopters. In August 1998 Dornier 228 aircraft were added to the fleet. In October 2004 Cosmic Air acquired its first 105-seat Fokker 100 aircraft on lease from AerCap Ireland. In January and April 2005 two further airplanes of this type were leased to Cosmic Air. At its height in 2005 international services were launched. Financial problems became public in November of the same year, when the airline had to halt its domestic operations after the state-owned Nepal Oil Corporation refused to sell it fuel unless it cleared past debts of 125 million rupees. Operations were restarted after Cosmic Air managed to pay its first instalment of 5 million rupees. Still, Cosmic Air incurred a loss of 620 million rupees for 2005. 2006 Another temporary suspension of operations occurred on 14 October 2006 because of technical problems with the airline's only operational Fokker 100 aircraft aircraft was grounded for technical reasons. On 1 January 2007 India provided a temporary maintenance and operational base at New Delhi. By Cosmic air flew only to Kolkata, Mumbai and Varanasi also, limited cargo flights continued into India western provinces Gujarat Ahmedabad. Nepal Airlines Golden History of Nepal Airlines corporation NAC (RNAC) ( source : From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia & google. photo credit goes to its original photographers ) Nepal Airlines Corporation नेपाल वायुसेवा निगम is the flag carrier airline of Nepal. History The 1950s and 1960s: early years HS.748 of Royal Nepal Airlines in 1974 The airline was established in July 1958 as Royal Nepal Airlines Corporation with one Douglas DC-3. At the beginning, its services were limited to Simara, Pokhara, Biratnagar and Indian cities such as Patna, Calcutta and Delhi. In 1961, Pilatus Porter STOL aircraft joined the fleet, and in 1963 12-seater Chinese Feng Shou-2 Harvesters were brought into service, opening up the kingdom’s more remote routes. Nepal's geopolitical situation produced a strange, politically mixed fleet, which was typically financed through aid programs from the country of manufacture. Seven more Douglas DC-3s were added to the fleet between 1959 and 1964. Furthermore, China supplied a couple of Feng Shou-2 aircraft which did not enter scheduled service. Bell Helicopters leased from Singapore were also used for charters. Two Russian Mi-4 helicopters also flew on scheduled routes to remote points. The route network was expanded internally and externally, soon reaching Dhaka in what was then East Pakistan.
