Hidden Facts Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM)
  • Only International Gateway (so far): TIA remains Nepal’s primary and only operational international airport with direct connections to Asia and the Middle East.
  • Named After Royal Legacy: Named in honor of King Tribhuvan, who played a pivotal role in ending the Rana regime and restoring democracy.
  • Surrounded by Hills: Kathmandu’s bowl-shaped geography makes landing at TIA both scenic and technically challenging — pilots require special mountain flying skills.
  • Cultural Proximity: Within 15–30 minutes' drive to UNESCO World Heritage Sites like Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, and Kathmandu Durbar Square.
  • Airborne Views: Arrivals often offer views of the Langtang Himalayas on clear days — one of the few capital cities in the world with visible snow peaks from the air.
  • Tourism Hub: 90% of tourists visiting Nepal start and end their journey here — making it not just an airport, but a symbolic entry to the country’s culture, adventure, and spirituality.
